Guilds moving to GW2.
don't know if this is to be a suggestion or something that belongs in riverside, but I was wandering weather arena net has taken into consideration the move of guilds or crossover of guilds from GW1 into GW2 like how individual can take with them their achievements thru HoM and weather this is good for guild to be carried forward?

They mean carrying the guild name over. I'm pretty sure Gaile once said that they would try to find a way to carry guild names over. Though it will probably be closer to GW2 release.

I think guild names being carried over, whether by effort of anet or the players, is inevitable. It's kind of a shame, though. I wouldn't mind a fresh start for everyone and let people all start from the same level playing field again. As soon as guild names start getting attached to people, I think the stereotype from GW1 is going to adhere to the GW2 guild.

How is having the same guild name in GW2 going to affect the playing field at all?

one, everyone else has to start anew, so in essence, it takes away from the clean start of the new game.
two, if they took trims and awards over to GW2, its GW1 elitism all over again.

You would be starting anew. You would just have the option to join a guild with the same name as your previous. Its not like your getting your guild hall or anything back - it would still have to grow like it did in GW1. And can you honestly tell me that new people will not be createing or joining guilds the moment they step into GW2?
As for the trims i doubt they would carry over.

The internet is full of malicious bastards. I can honestly see someone going ahead and createing Rebel Rising or perhaps Scars Meadows just for the lulz.

Yes, Guild transfer sounds good, but Guild ranks and special trims should NOT be transferable.
Like the poster above me already stated, elitism from day one is a bad idea.
GW2 will be a whole different game, so let's keep it that way.

Squabbling. Can you just see someone taking the name of a guild that already exists. Game on. the guilds might even be set up differently no one knows. Or if they do know they are not telling us.
Are we not going to be the Charr or something like that to set up a guild wars 3?

Do you really have to ask?
Reputation is one HUGE reason I can think of, among other things. A lot of players/guilds are going to be at a natural advantage just because of the name or guild name they bare, even if it is just something like recruiting.

A lot of established guilds will simply reform, provided they have sufficient out-of-game communication. But you knew that

Whether the actual guild name itself moves to GW2 or not, guilds will move there in one form or another. As mentioned most well established guilds can communicate by ways other than than the actual game (website, vent. emails, forum...). It won't be too hard for old friends to get together in GW2 and form a guild, and take their play style and acheivemenst along through their website.
I agree though, carrying the guild name over would be a neat idea.

Because none of these guilds with a huge reputation would form in GW2 without their name being saved right? the well known guilds would form with or without a name save system. You would have to ban all the guild names used in GW1 to stop that from happening.
EDIT: Gah Snow Bunny beat me to it.

Reputation like titles that are being carried over? I see what you mean, but a prestigious guild name is no different than a prestigious title. Not to the impressionable masses.
Perhaps instead of ANet migrating guilds to GW2, they can reserve guild names to the leader of a guild in GW1. This way people don't have to worry about losing their name to other players.

I presume that will be the case. I'm just musing at how unfortunate that is. The best guild I was ever in now has a smeared reputation. It will hard for guilds like that to start over, yet too easy for "popular" guilds. I'm just saying I wish for a level playing ground for all people, but it is unlikely. Even guilds like SMS who are a shadow of their past will have an advantage over currently active and good guilds, but maybe fly a bit under the radar.

No, not at all like that. I mean strictly the reputations that guilds have, good or bad - those will be carried over, and I think that is very unfortunate.
